Food at Malton Montessori

We believe that good food is fundamental to healthy child well being.

All children sit down to eat meals as a community. We offer all children a high energy slow release breakfast (even if they have had breakfast at home) comprising of healthy breakfast cereals and or toast with milk. Lunch is a cooked two-course meal; all food is free from harmful artificial additives and colourings. Meat, fruit and vegetables are sourced locally where possible.

We do not serve convenience, highly processed or sugared foods as we realise that this may impact on a child's behaviour and consequently their learning. It is for this reason that we do not support pack lunches, the harmony in our community is of paramount importance to us.

Tea is normally a cooked savoury, fresh produce is often grown in the school gardens and prepared by the children themselves. We do serve cakes and biscuits at tea time, however these are always freshly baked. We provide plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit.

Chocolate and sugar is a stimulant and makes children difficult to teach, we use these sparingly. Parents are asked not to give their children chocolate and sweets before school. Why not make Saturdays special and treat your child at the weekend.

We cater for a number of diets due to medical conditions and religious observances. Lifestyle chosen diets will only be accommodated where possible and affordable.

Our kitchens and staff have been rated at Level 5 for Food Hygiene.
